Pre-AP is a program to prepare students for the rigors of Advanced Placement classes.  The Amarillo Independent School District’s Pre-AP program is available in 6th – 10th grades, at which time, eligible students move into Advanced Placement classes.  Students taking these classes are eligible to earn dual credit for both high school and college.  In addition, students passing senior level AP exams may be eligible for cash incentives.

Sam Houston Middle School's Pre-AP program is aligned with Tascosa High School.  Students performing at high levels of academic achievement who are recommended by their teachers may be placed in Pre-AP classes.  All four core subject areas have Pre-AP sections.

It is expected that students who are enrolled in Pre-AP classes are not only academically ahead of the average student for his or her grade level, but that these students have an advanced work ethic.  Academic proficiency is not enough for a student to be successful in Pre-AP and AP classes. These students do assigned work on time (or early).  These students readily make-up any missed assignments.  These students embody our "No Excuses" policy.

The Amarillo Independent School District has mandated that ALL Pre-AP and AP students will have a summer reading assignment. Attached are these assignments for 6th, 7th and 8th grade.
